Product Description
The space outside of your ships paint locker was recently inspected by Chief Engineer, who dinged your department for improper emergency lighting upkeep. It seems the current lights have been out of commission for years due to corrosion caused by leaking battery acid.
Per OSHA and Maritime Law, you are required to place Class 1 Division 2 hazardous location fixtures directly outside of Class 1 Division 1 spaces like the paint locker in question. Easy enough to buy a HazLoc unit, but what about the short lifespan and possibility of leakage that comes with those old SLA batteries?
We have just the device to make the CHENG smile from ear to ear: the 12V 42W NiCad Battery Class 1 Division 2 Emergency Light, a C1D2 fixture that looks nice and has an 15+ year battery life!
Construction
Our sleek and stylish EXP-12-42-MR16-10W-NC is constructed with a .100" thick heavy die cast aluminum back housing, which we then powder coat with an industrial gray baked-on finish.
A clear 0.125" thick polycarbonate lens protects the lighting heads within from vandalism and impact. To meet NEC and OSHA protocols for Class 1 Div. 2 spaces, a memory retention gasket protects the inside cavity from dust, moisture or water intrusion.
The EXP-12-42-MR16-10W-NC uses dual 10W Halogen MR16 heads which can be hand positioned by first removing the polycarbonate shield. Halogen produces a bright light with a slightly warm color temperature that cuts through dust and smoke better than pure-white light sources like LED.
Battery and UL Testing
The EXP-12-42-MR16-10W-NC includes a shrink-wrapped pack of AAA-sized 12V Nickel Cadmium (ni-cd) batteries, which supply 90 minutes of emergency runtime. The battery pack has enough leftover power to provide up to 20 watts of remote load for other fixtures and floodlights.
Because Ni-Cd batteries are much lighter than Lead Acid type, the shipping costs will be a significantly less than the equivalent SLA model. Ni-Cd battery replacements are typically cheaper to buy, and last up to three years longer than 6V sealed lead acid blocks.
