A recent safety inspection at your beer distillery highlighted the need for non-metallic backup lights around the vats and silos. The last maintenance guy was a little drunk, so he put in generic plastic emergency lights that put out barely any light and fell apart due to high pressure sanitation washdowns. What is a long-life waterproof egress solution that is also Class II Hazardous Location Rated?
Our answer is the 6V 25W Class 1 and 2 Div 2 Emergency Light with NiCad Battery Backup, a wet location-ready fixture ideal for high-pressure hose-down areas. The STN25-ZK-2 is also hermetically sealed and UL-stamped for places like distilleries where flammable dust and vapors can accumulate in the air, posing an explosive hazard to personnel and equipment.
Construction
Rather than a steel or plastic housing, the STN25-ZK-2 is constructed with a fiberglass cabinet that is resistant to corrosion and sun-damage. An industrial gray finish is standard. The battery and internal components can be accessed via a hinged and gasketed door on the front of the battery box. A view through window box allows you to monitor components without having to break the seal.
Each 6V 25W Class 1 and 2 Div 2 Emergency Light with NiCad Battery Backup model we sell is individually tested in the factory to UL844 Hazardous Location standards, as well as a series of brutal wash-down tests to ensure the gaskets and housing stay completely sealed.
Light Source
This model includes two (2) top-mounted 8-watt sealed beam halogen Par36-style heads. These waterproof heads are fully-adjustable and molded from impact-resistant thermoplastic in a black color.
Battery & Testing
The STN25-ZK-2 includes a shrink-wrapped pack of AAA-sized 6-volt Nickel Cadmium batteries, which supplies a 25W capacity. Use the extra power for a nearby remote head or exit sign, or to extend the emergency runtime past 90 mins!
Because Ni-Cd batteries are much lighter than heavy gel type, the shipping costs will be significantly less than the equivalent lead calcium models. Ni-Cd battery replacements are typically cheaper to buy, and last up to three years longer than 6V lead calcium blocks. Best of all, they don't rupture under heat, allowing you to place the TN25-ZK-2 in stressful conditions.
For periodic UL-mandated testing, a push-to-test switch on the side of the housing allows maintenance personnel to quickly ascertain the operational status of the fixture and lamp load. Above the switch is a dual diagnostic LED display indicating AC/ON and High Charge.
