Maybe you have a situation where your auto collision repair business was recently inspected by the Fire Marshall, who dinged you for improper emergency lighting outside of your paint spray booth. The current lights are cheap plastic ones from the hardware store, and the exit signs don't have batteries to power them during an emergency. While it may not seem like a flammable environment, NEC Code requires you to have a Class 1 Division 2 fixture outside the paint spray booth that is sufficiently protected in case a spill or other uncommon accident occurs. In such situations, just a tiny spark from a circuit board - like the ones inside unprotected exit lights - could ignite a huge explosion!
We suggest you invest in the EXP-618-MR16-6W, a Class 1 Division 2 fixture that comes with a 5-year warranty and UL924 Listing.
Construction
Our sleek and stylish Paint Booth Emergency Light is fabricated with a .100" thick heavy die cast aluminum back housing, which we then powder coat with an industrial gray baked-on finish.
A clear polycarbonate lens protects the lighting heads and other components within from impact. To meet NEC and OSHA protocols for Class 1 Div. 2 spaces, a memory retention gasket protects the inside cavity from explosive shavings, dust, gases and vapors.
The EXP-618-MR16-6W uses dual 6W Halogen MR16 heads which can be hand positioned by first removing the polycarbonate shield. Halogen produces a bright light with a slightly warm color temperature that cuts through dust and smoke better than pure-white light sources like LED.
Battery and UL Testing
The Class 1 Division 2 Paint Booth Emergency Light includes a 6V maintenance-free Sealed Lead Acid battery that maintains a 18W load rated for at least 90 minutes. The SLA battery requires only 24-hours to fully re-charge.
To maintain the battery's 5-7 year expected life span, a discharge test should be performed at monthly and bi-annual intervals. This is accomplished by pressing the push-to-test button behind the polycarbonate lens, allowing you to quickly ascertain the operational status of the fixture and lamps. Above the button is a dual diagnostic LED display indicating AC/ON and High Charge.
Want to save maintenance costs? Simply choose the Autotest (AT) option, a microprocessor that constantly monitors the lamps, battery and circuits. AT also performs all UL-mandated tests for you!
